Safety Suggestions

As with any activity, you'll need to be safe when tubing. People with medical conditions should talk to a doctor. Though it doesn't appear it, tubing can be strenuous.

If you're tubing an area that you don't know, use hyper-caution around rapids. We prefer to tube the tried and true routes and use outfitters, but if you don't, ask questions, be safe, and don't drink too much.

Of course, designate a driver. You can drink a lot on the river before you know it. That's why bringing water is such a good idea. When it's hot out, you'll want to drink anything to quench your thirst — have water available to space out the alcohol.

Rope swings are sometimes on the banks. If you do use them, check out the area below the swing first! NEVER dive into water you're unsure of, either.

Water flow can make a usually safe river quite dangerous. Check the flow and don't go if it's too swift. The Guadalupe's optimum flow, for example, is around a lazy 300 CFS.

If you do get hurt tubing, it's probably your own fault. Exercise good judgment, don't get drunk, be careful, tube with a group.

Water sports are a great way to relax on Texas rivers. But be courteous of land owners and the real estate around the water. Take your cans with you. Kayak, canoe, rafting, fishing boat, or tube ... help keep it clean.
